Windborne Skirt

The Windborne skirt is made for twirling through meadows, rolling down hills, and blowing dandelion seeds into the wind. Inspired by my own daughters’ wild, adventurous ways, I designed this skirt to include sweet, whimsical details paired with the durability needed for children’s clothes. Thoughtfully created with an extendable waistline, the Windborne skirt grows with your child, promising many seasons of joyful wear and becoming a treasured heirloom piece long after the first twirl.

The Windborne skirt is made for twirling through meadows, rolling down hills, and blowing dandelion seeds into the wind. Materials: hemp, acrylic

Extendable waistband: this feature enables your child to wear their skirt for longer as they grow! Hidden behind the satin clothing label inside the skirt, you’ll find a yarn in a contrasting color, whip-stitched across an opening. Remove this contrasting strand of yarn to gain access to the elastic waistband. From there, you can pull the elastic band out far enough to cut through it, then pull it out completely. Try the skirt on your child. If it fits without elastic, great! If you need to add a new, longer piece of elastic, just purchase 3/4” knit elastic, wrap around your child’s waist with a comfortable amount of stretch, cut, and insert into the now-empty waistband channel, feeding it through one side with the help of a safety pin on the end for easier guiding. Once you’ve made it all the way around, simply sew the two ends together using a medium-long zig-zag stitch on a sewing machine. Use a piece of yarn to whip stitch the access hole back together, and you’re done.

Note that sizing up MORE than one full size larger is not guaranteed.

Care: The Windborne skirt is machine washable! Place skirt inside a mesh laundry bag to prevent other clothing from snagging on it. Wash in cool water on a gentle cycle. Remove from laundry bag and tumble dry on the lowest heat setting or lay flat to dry.
